James M. Rae
President and Chief Executive Officer

James Rae brings to Viron over 30 years of experience in the manufacturing, marketing, financial, human resource and R & D operations of pharmaceutical and biotechnology firms. He has considerable experience in fund-raising/financing from public, private and government sectors, and in deal-making with multi-national companies.   James Rae is the President and founder of Remedis, a health-care business consultancy specializing in the re-structuring and financing of health-care businesses.  Prior to establishing Remedis, he was President and C.E.O. of Cangene, a publicly-listed biotech company where he was responsible for re-structuring and orchestrating a reverse take-over of the company.  Mr. Rae was previously the Chairman and C.E.O. of Vaxis Therapeutics Inc. in Kingston, Ont., and Chairman and C.E.O. of Resolution Pharmaceuticals.   Most recently he has been the C.E.O. of Cytochroma Inc., a Markham-based biotech company which he transitioned over an 18-month period from a research entity into one advanced into clinical development with a diversified product base.   Mr. Rae is presently Chairman of Queens Scientific Breakthrough Fund (Kingston) and holds directorships in a number of Canadian biotech companies.

 

Colin Macaulay, Ph.D.
Director, Research and Development
Dr. Macaulay is a founding member of Viron, directing the protein purification operations and providing scientific know how and advice in all non-clinical areas of the Company. Dr. Macaulay obtained a Ph.D. in Biochemistry (University of Alberta, Canada) in 1989 after studying the molecular biology of mammalian viruses. He came to Viron after a postdoctoral research position at the University of California, San Diego, and has extensive experience in protein purification and characterization, development of analytical assays, and gene identification and expression.

 

Rob Browne, CA
Chief Financial Officer
Mr. Browne is a seasoned financial executive with over 20 years of experience building and leading high-calibre integrated accounting, finance, human resources, and administrative organizations. He has extensive background in public and private companies operating in the biopharmaceutical, biotechnology, financial services, and retail sectors.  Previous experience includes serving as Chief Financial Officer of Bioniche Life Sciences and Adherex Technologies, where Mr. Browne led the Initial Public Offering of the company on the Toronto Stock Exchange. Mr. Browne is a member of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants and qualified as a CA in 1984.
