BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Mitchell A. Baran
Mr. Baran is Chairman of Trudell Medical Group, a family owned global healthcare company that carries on activities in product development, manufacturing and distribution of medical products in Canada, the US and internationally.  Mr. Baran is past Chairman of the Medical Devices Advisory Council, a Government of Canada initiative to promote competitiveness in the Canadian medical devices industry and Med Tech, an exposition designed to showcase innovative Canadian medical devices and assist researchers and inventors to bring their products to market.  He is also a past member of the Ontario Health Industry Advisory Committee (HIAC) and the Health Industries Development Council (HIDCO), both medical industry initiatives of the Province of Ontario.  Mr. Baran is director of a number of Canadian and US companies and has been a member of Viron’s Board of Directors since the company’s inception.   Mr. Baran, an alumnus of the University of Western Ontario’s Ivey School of Business, is also a Chartered Accountant and has been inducted as a Fellow of the Ontario Institute of Chartered Accountants.

 

Dr. Michael Cross
Michael Cross is Senior Vice President and Portfolio Manager of Fairway Capital Management.  Dr. Cross has lead responsibility for providing investment management services including portfolio and investee company analysis and structuring and negotiating investments.  Previous to Fairway Capital, Michael had lead operational responsibilities as COO of a public oncology company where he helped bring an anticancer product into worldwide pivotal clinical trials.  In addition, Dr. Cross was Managing Director of a contract manufacturing organization and has held a variety of senior positions at MDS and MDS Capital Corp, most recently as Vice president of the protein analysis division of MDS.  Prior to this, Dr. Cross was an investment manager of MDS Capital, where he was responsible for completing early-stage investment activities, and participating at the Board of Directors and the Executive Committee levels of investee companies.  Dr. Cross received both his Masters in Business Administration and his Doctorate in Philosophy from the University of Toronto. 

 

Dr. Lisa Crossley

Lisa Crossley is President and CEO of Nysa Membrane Technologies, a biotech company that develops novel, high capacity, single-use disposable membrane chromatography products for use in biopharmaceutical production, food & beverage processing, wastewater treatment and potable water production applications.  Lisa's background is in the field of biochemical engineering and biopharmaceutical manufacturing.  Lisa left a faculty position in the Department of Chemical Engineering at McMaster University to join Nysa in March, 2005.  Prior to joining the faculty at McMaster she worked in Product Development at Dyax Corporation in Boston, MA, where she directed the process development, technology transfer, and large-scale clinical-grade contract manufacturing of two of Dyax's lead therapeutic proteins.  Lisa has consulted for several of North America's largest Life Sciences Venture Capital companies, aiding in technical due diligence as well as designing comprehensive product development plans for early-stage portfolio companies.  Lisa holds a B.Sc. in Anatomy & Cell Biology from McGill University, as well as a B.Sc.E. and Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Queen's University.

 

Joseph Regan

Joseph Regan is a Vice President, Investments at GrowthWorks Capital. Mr. Regan joined GrowthWorks in early 2003, bringing over a decade of life sciences venture capital and pharmaceutical industry experience. He has been active in both company creation and the strategic growth of portfolio companies. Mr. Regan currently serves on a number of GrowthWorks’ investee Boards and Funds. Joe has an Honours BSc (with distinction) from the University of Guelph and an MBA (Dean's List) from McMaster University.
